Do you give your power for being happy and okay in the world to external circumstances that are beyond your control?
Upset feelings usually imprison you in some negative camp of emotions like anger, or frustration, jealousy, or depression. These negative emotional responses are usually to things ‘seemingly’ not going your way. You fear things not going the way you want means __________ what? Fill in the blank.
What do you tell yourself about what is, or isn’t occurring?
You always have the choice of feeling fearful about what is happening, or responding with love. You can take your power back at any moment.
You have a choice!
Having the choice to decide for yourself how you will feel and respond is of utmost importance to the human mind. Being upset about something is a choice, not a forgone conclusion.
When something doesn’t go your way, you have a choice to respond with fear and all the subsequent negative emotions. Or, to choose to feel love and experience peace of mind.
You are in a much more powerful frame of mind when you are at peace to respond to any situation in your life. Your best possible outcomes come when you act from love and peace, not reaction out of fear.
What you see is a reflection of what you believe. Your state of mind is under your control, if you choose. Letting external events control your state of mind leads to misery, not happiness. It leads to feelings of aloneness and isolation from others.
Is the Outside World the Cause of Your Feeling Upset?
The outside world is not the cause of your feeling upset. Consider for a moment this kind of thinking may be backwards. You actually see what you believe about the world. What you see is determined by the way you think about things. Your mind actually filters out, like blinders on a horse, information that is not like the thoughts you believe.
You see the world as you are, not as it is.
Can you entertain the idea that what you see is the effect of your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes. We blame the world for the misery and pain we experience. Whereas, in truth, the world simply delivers to us what it is we believe about the world.
Fear begets fear.
Fear is the basis for all misery and suffering in the world. A mind ‘nourished’ on fearful thoughts is never and can never experience peace of mind, happiness and true freedom.
Your perceptions (projections and interpretations) about the world are a mirror, not a fact. Perceptions are your opinions about what is happening and what it means for you, not the bare bones truth about what is really happening.
It is only with time passing that we can begin to truly see what the effect of something that occurs will be. Some of the worst things that happen in life can lead to far reaching changes that are needed in our individual lives and for society.
When something you don’t want to happen, happens, the most productive response is to make positive course corrections that will, hopefully, get you better results in the future.
Do a Self Test
Do a self test for yourself. Choose to be peaceful when faced with uncertainties, or things not going according to plan and see what happens. Then, do a test, getting upset about whatever doesn’t go your way. Which gets you the better result? And, which feels better?
Can you choose to see life with the eyes of love and filter out all that is not of love? Or, will you choose to see with the eyes of fear, hate and bitterness and see only things to fear and hate?
You can never control the world outside. But, you can control your inner thoughts and the kind of world you experience.
What Am I REALLY Upset About?
What am I really upset about? Ask yourself this question before allowing yourself to get on the grievance train that tells you that you ‘should’ be upset. Is it true that you ‘should’ be upset? Or, do you have a choice?
Consider for a moment that what you experience in life is a product of your mind and what your mind tells you to experience is based upon previous decisions you made about ‘how life is.’

Notice when opportunities arise to put the lesson into practice. Take note of your response. Ask yourself if you want to experience peace of mind, or experience conflict? On going to bed before falling asleep remind yourself about the day's lesson. How did you choose to respond to life events and what did you learn.
