Thyme oil is extracted by steam distillation from the the flowering tops and leaves of the herb. It has an intensely hot antiseptic smell with spicy after notes.
Very high in thymol (up to 60% or more), carvacrol (up to 40% or more) and borneol. Studies published in the Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism reported both chemical properties thymol and borneol to be highly effective for inhibiting bone loss.
