Hi Lynn – yes, the simple answer is: to stimulate more fire remove the source of blockage and choose the essential oil to strengthen your fire element.

On your seeking clarity regarding information you received from Young Living. This is a frequent question of concern to the aromatherapy community at-large. I appreciate the opportunity to address it here for you and anyone else who has received confusing mis-information about the safe use of essential oils.

I’d like to refer you to an article published by Cropwatch that addresses all of your concerns about Young Living and MLMs. Cropwatch is an Independent Watchdog for Natural Aromatic Products used in the aroma (fragrance/cosmetics, flavour, aromatherapy), traditional herbal medicine & phytochemical industries. Many of these natural commodities are under threat via their over-exploitation in the wild, or their continued use & availability faces uncertainty via the imposition of restrictive & over-precautionary legislation.

You might also be interested to visit the National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA) website and review the NAHA Safety Statements. NAHA is a leading aromatherapy organization in the United States and internationally. NAHA’s mission is to advance the knowledge of the medicinal use of aromatic plants and essential oils to its fullest extent and to support aromatherapy as a truly holistic professional art and science. For several years I was the Oregon NAHA Director. You can rely on the information NAHA provides to be objective and research based.

NAHA frequently receives quetions about such techniques as Raindrop Therapy, Internal Use, Undiluted application as well as questions about MLMs. NAHA Safety Statements addresses these modalities and comments on MLMs.

For NAHA’s safety page, please visit: http://www.naha.org/explore-aromatherapy/safety/ You’ll need register on the NAHA website to access this information.

I hope this information is helpful and clarifies things for you, Lynn. Please let me know if you have further questions or concerns. Thanks again!

Hi KG, thanks, so if I’m looking for more fire, then I need to look more closely at what may be causing the blockage of fire and chose the oil to assist…,makes sense…
I recently attended a locally adv. aromatherapy seminar hoping to meet people who share my interest and check out the products I assumed were to be offered. I learned about a company called Young Living that sells many EOs and blends and health and home care products in a pyramid-based business mode. It was all very interesting, but with the recent knowledge I have acquired thru my course with you, a few ‘red flags’ popped up, and I decided to do more online research about the company when I returned home. I found a website that evaluates natural/alternative practices and I was very disturbed to read about the founder’s history. How can this be true and he still be in business? Or is this a way for the medical profession, threatened by natural healers, to try and eliminate competition? Can you help me sort this out?

Hi Lynn, thanks for your excellent question! :) Yes, some oils stimulate while others diminish intensity of an imbalanced element. If you know the cause of your symptoms and they are not complicated (entangled with other imbalanced elements) and they are due to excess / or weak element then a single oil will usually work to balance. However, if you don’t know the cause of your symptoms then a synergy blend is more effective, as it will contain adaptogenic / regulating oils. This topic of adaptogenic essential oils is beyond the scope of this blog. However, you will be introduced to adaptogenic / regulating oils in the aromatherapy course you’re taking with me, as well as how to blend synergy blends correctly. Hope this helps!

I think this has been a very interesting experience. I’ve been considering what it means when your elements are imbalanced. It could mean you have too much of something or not enough. Does that mean certain oils would enhance an element while another would lessen the intensity? Or do the oils play a more adaptogenic role?
