Essential Oils for Women's Health Bartholin’s Cyst

Millions of women worldwide suffer with a painful and often agonizing condition called a Bartholin cyst.

If you're one of those women, or know a friend or loved one with a Bartholin cyst, please read my article to learn about a simple comfort care measure using essential oils that promotes natural drainage of the cyst.

How It All Began

When a client and friend of mine consulted with me about an uncomfortably enlarged and painful Bartholin gland cyst she asked if I could formulate a blend for her as a comfort care measure to promote drainage and elimination of the cyst. She mentioned that she had previously suffered with recurring Bartholin gland cysts for many years, but none of them had gotten as enlarged and painful as this one.

My friend was very concerned about having the Bartholin gland lanced for removal of the cyst by a doctor. Since then, after many years of consulting with hundreds of women who have shared very painful outcomes of having had their Bartholin cysts lanced, or surgically removed by marsupialization, I fully understand my client's genuine concern.

As an aromatherapy consultant I am frequently asked to custom formulate blends as a comfort care measure for a variety of health concerns. So, I formulated a blend for my friend.

Within three days I heard back from my friend that the cyst was completely gone. The last time we spoke she told me she has never been bothered with a Bartholin gland cyst since using her Bartholin cyst formula, more than five years ago now.

After consulting with hundreds of women with a Bartholin cyst I've come to realize that this particular health concern is seldom talked about, or discussed among women. There are a few forums where women share information, but many women choose to suffer and struggle with the issue in silence. I hope this article will be helpful to the many women who suffer with a Bartholin cyst and give them a safe, natural alternative that is noninvasive to consider as an option.

What is a Bartholin gland?

The Bartholin gland is a tiny organ on each of the labia minora (vaginal lips) just outside the opening to a woman’s vagina. If the vagina were the face of a clock, the Bartholin glands would be found at about 4 and 8 o'clock. Normally they are so tiny that they are invisible.

During sexual arousal the Bartholin gland releases a lubricating fluid. A Bartholin gland cyst develops when the gland becomes blocked.

Why a Bartholin Gland Gets Blocked?

There are many individual variables contributing to the Bartholin gland becoming blocked and resulting in formation of a cyst. Some of those may include an infection, inflammation, long term irritation, or poor circulation.

Generally the area where the Bartholin glands are located is subject to poor circulation due to prolonged sitting in many cases. For instance my friend, a graphic designer, sits for long periods of time without getting up.

Also, toxins tend to drain down into the lower part of the body where they can accumulate and these stagnant fluids may result in the formation of a cyst.

Bartholin Cyst Symptoms

When blockage of a Bartholin gland occurs a round swelling called a cyst forms that “can grow to the size of an orange,” though most report only “as large as the size of a golf ball.” Women using the Bartholin cyst formula have reported glands the “size of a large lemon.” Cysts can become tender though not always.
